Phyllotaxis: the arrangement of leaves on a stem and in relation to each other.
Tactic: an action or method that is planned and used to achieve a particular goal.
Phyllo-tactics is a study in bio-mimetic design that draws inspiration from the formal and organizational structure of succulent plants to create mass-customized 3D-printed vessels. The goal of these vessels is to create both harmony and contrast between the natural and the manmade, using principles of self-similarity, continuous differentiation, and multi-scalar relations between form and pattern.
A single parametric definition was used to to create 60 unique vessels (five form-factors, six patterning systems, and two scales of patterning) while minding the constraints of planting (ratio of exposed soil area to overall volume, drainage) and additive manufacturing (minimum wall thickness, maximum wall slope, and print resolution).
